I fancied trying something a little different this Monday, with the weather outside not up to much I thought it was the perfect opportunity to show you one of my go to make up looks and break down my routine into pictures.... I hope you enjoy!
I use this Laura Mercier primer as a moisturiser and to prep my skin for the day. I find this helps smooth out my skin and also holds my make on for longer. I got this in a set from Harrods earlier this year so it's almost ran out. I definitely will be buying it again though!
As it's tinted and I'm going to be contouring with concealer I not going to be using a foundation or BB cream.
I find this way the quickest and most effective way of contouring, I use both my MAC concealer pallets, using the lightest shade on the parts of my face I want to highlight and then the deepest shade on the shadows of my face, to enhance them. I use a concealer rather then powder in the day time as I find it more natural and dewy looking. I can get slightly dry skin, especially in the winter.
And blend!!
I added a pop off MAC's Dollymix blush on the apples of my cheeks and blend up slightly. I have a MAC pro pallet which holds 6 blushes in. I find it easier and a lot cheaper to hold my blushes this way.
This colour is perfect for a fresh faced look, and also has a slight shimmer so can highlight the cheek bones well.
If I'm wearing a liquid liner I tend to just wear one shadow blended allover the lid. I chose a favourite of mine MAC's Bronze - I also carry my shadows in a Pro Pallet for easiness.
If I was creating a smokey eye, shimmery shade or wearing a darker shadow I would normally do my eyes first but as they colour is a pretty muted tone it doesn't matter if I get small specs below my eyes, I use a powder brush to brush them away.
It's then time to liven up my eyes, I use the YSL shocking mascara to create a cat-eye shape and then use Covergirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara in waterproof. I tend to use waterproof mascaras as I find my eyes can be a bit weepy, especially in the wind! It's just a bit of a pain to remove sometimes, so I try to use an oil based cleanser. That does the trick!
Excuse the Mascara Face... Everyone has one!
Now time for the brows, I use quite a dark pencil from MAC, I find that pencils are good for my brows as they are quite thick already so I like to draw fine lines through just to fill them out.
Handy Tip: Always start at the bottom on your brow when filling them in and work your way upwards in strokes, it will give a more natural look!
I then set my brows with MAC's brow set - I used the clear one today!
Now lets get lippy... I used one of my fav lip liners of all time, Boldly Bare my MAC, I use liners to add extra colour intensity and helps to hold my lipstick as long as possible. The lipstick I used was Ravishing by MAC obviously. I don't use all MAC products I promise.
That's the finished look, it's definitely my go - to look when I don't know what I fancy or I don't have the time to be creative. It goes with everything.
I then went on to do my hair, there really wasn't anything to it. I brushed it with my trusty Tangle Teaser I have used these for years and then tamed the unruly ends with some L'Oreal Mythic Oil - it's a new one for me and so far so good!
I had already chosen my outfit this morning so I put that on and I was ready for the day.
I forget how much I love this bag, I think it's the fact its personalised that makes it that extra bit special. Plus it goes with everything!
As you can see the Maxi Cardigan has made a come back! I love pieces like this that takes you all the way from spring right through to winter.
